Singer 5625 Stylist II Sewing Machine
The Singer 5625 Stylist II sewing machine is another entry in the line of mid-priced, intermediate-level machines for sewers who want maximum functionality but prefer to keep the price under $1000. 225 built-in stitches, including straight and zigzag, stretch, decorative and six different one-step buttonholes, make the Stylist versatile but not overwhelmingly so. It is surprisingly easy to use, considering everything it can do.
Choose one of the 225 stitches with push buttons on the colorful control panel on the front of the machine. A small LCD screen allows the user to pick and choose patterns and lettering for decorative stitching and monogramming. Simply press a button and stitches can be mirrored or sewn together as a continuous pattern. In addition, there is the capability to permanently store 20 stitch and alphabet combinations.
A larger than average selection of presser feet is included with the 5625. In addition to the standard all-purpose foot, zipper foot, buttonhole foot with under plate as well as a button sewing foot, and blind hem foot, a bonus collection includes a gathering foot, rolled hem foot, special purpose foot, pintuck foot, invisible zipper foot, even feed/walking foot, freehand embroidery and darning foot, cording foot, quarter inch foot for quilting, and ruffle and open-toe foot. Even the most accomplished and ambitious sewers will probably never have to purchase an additional presser foot.
Extra care was taken in the design of this machine to make it very user-friendly. When a problem occurs, the Stylist II alerts the user with four different sound and visual error messages. A sturdy built-in handle on the top makes quick work of transporting this machine from one location to another, even without a carrying case. Of course the 5625 includes a foot pedal, power cord, needles, bobbins, thread spool caps, screwdriver for the needle plate, and extra needles, including two twin-needles, which typically must be purchased separately.
The selection of stitches and accessories make this an ideal machine for the sewer who wants to create detailed and finely-constructed clothing and fashion accessories, hence the name Stylist. However, it also will handle repairs, quilting, and heavy-duty, special purpose fabrics such as canvas or leather. It is sophisticated enough to handle advanced sewing projects, but not so complicated that the purchaser must expect to spend a week studying the included user manual. Neither the cheapest nor the most expensive Singer, this is a well-built, all-around useful machine for the exacting home sewer.
